Story Light

The “No-Film” Video: How we built a 5-minute brand story for SKOPE using existing footage.

If you’ve been in business for a while it’s likely you’ve got some video footage lying around on computers, hard drive… or even a DVD!

The footage could be what you’ve filmed internally, or from a professional videographer. Most businesses overlook this content because it’s already been used in a video, or because it’s difficult to edit.

But if you can work with skilled editor or video production company you can turn this digital dust into a valuable business asset.

This post is about how we have helped SKOPE Refrigeration create videos – all without even doing a single day of filming.

What can go wrong if you edit videos internally!

We aren’t against people editing their own video content. Some businesses are lucky to have a dedicated team or in-house videographer who specialise in video.

But for many SMEs, content creation often falls on the small (or one person) marketing team. Time can quickly spiral away, and what you thought was a small video edit, could take up the better part of two weeks!

We believe that a collaborative approach is an efficient way to make great video content.

Our collaboration with SKOPE

We have had the privilege to work with SKOPE Refrigeration since 2024.

SKOPE came to Storylight needing a local video production company who could take their internal video library and turn it into useful sales content.

The footage we received had been filmed by their team or professional videographers.

Mining for gold in your digital dust!

On your servers, hard drives, laptops or mobile phones you likely will find some unused footage hiding out.

Ideally, you want to look for whole folders worth of footage from the same shoot. This will give you a lot more options when editing your story.

If you have ever worked with a professional videographer and they supplied the folder of “raw” footage then you have struck video gold!

Don’t worry if all you have is the final video file from a previous project. We can edit the clips from finished content and rearrange them into your new video. It is always best to supply the highest quality version of the video you have.

How to collaborate with a video production company

Working with an organisation like SKOPE taught us the value of collaboration and we loved working with a client who had a really clear brief! We worked closely with their marketing team and leveraged their expertise to get the best results for the videos.

They supplied the script and even recorded the voice overs internally with their staff. This kept the tone of voice authentic while also keeping costs down. You’re staff will also love being part of the video process!

SKOPE was able to oversee the creative process and get internal sign off before we even started editing – saving time and streamlining the feedback steps.

From the hours of video footage we hand selected the best moments that would look great for their local and international tradeshows and sales presentations.

The final result!

Check out the example below of a 5-minute brand video we created for SKOPE.

We have also helped them with the following services:

  • Tradeshow videos
  • Sales videos
  • Virtual sales content
  • Motion graphics
  • Product animations

Graphics to make it look professional

Often poorly created titles and graphics let the whole video project down and it ends up looking like a Windows Movie Maker home video!

We carefully followed SKOPE’s brand guidelines to make sure the look was consistent, even though we used footage from different camera sources.

This was especially important as the videos were being displayed on tradeshow screens alongside other branded print materials.

Animation

Animation is also a great way to communicate your message without needing any video footage. A skilled animator can leverage your existing graphics assets to create animations.

We developed these clean and simple animations that got played on screens at tradeshow events.

Our happy client!

This review from SKOPE’s marketing manager Nicole Frame speaks for itself:

Take the time to do it right!

The process of editing library footage should be done the right way from the start. You do not want to end up with a mess of duplicated footage, offline media, low resolution graphics, and stacks of project files if you try the DIY approach.

With this SKOPE project we have now streamlined the process and video “project file” so that each future video is easier to create.

As you can hear we are pretty excited about maximising the results businesses get from their videos!! Whether it’s content we’ve filmed, or it’s sourced from a different videographer – we just want to see businesses communicate as effectively as they can with video!

If you’ve got a hard drive full of ‘digital dust’ and aren’t sure where to start, send us a message. We’d love to help you find that gold.
